This calculator has five modes:  ±

  1. Standard value resistor selection, given a calculated value and a desired component tolerance;
  2. Calculate resultant parallel resistance, based on an arbitrary number of resistors. Again, use to determine the closest standard value part;
  3. Given an existing resistor and a desired final (lower) resistance, what is the best part to parallel with the existing resistor?;
  4. Given a desired ratio of resistors and one value to start with, what is the best choice for the other resistor?
  5. Simply list all values of a decade, given the tolerance and the chosen decade.
Choose desired calculation:

All the modes work with standard values and the particular set of standard values is at all times user selectable. E6 (20%) through E96 (1%) sets can be chosen, although the E6 set is generally not available in most modes.

Also, some of the modes draw the resistors for the user, in up to four different renditions (US-style schematic symbol, through-hole with colour bands, SMD and SMD with ISO codes).
